HD 1010 : Batten System

Suitable for:

  • residential
  • industrial
  • education
  • healthcare
  • leisure

The Hush Batten System is a proven acoustic solution for concrete separating floors, designed to meet Part E of the Building Regulations. By combining Hush-Felt resilient layers, acoustic battens, and chipboard or plywood decking, it significantly reduces airborne and impact noise while providing a strong and stable floor finish. Below the slab, the system uses a suspended ceiling with plasterboard lining to further improve acoustic isolation. Suitable for residential, student, and commercial developments, the Hush Batten System can be upgraded with enhanced ceiling treatments where the structure does not meet the required density, ensuring reliable sound insulation across a wide range of projects.

System Components

  • Hush Battens loose laid at required centres over Hush-Felt 10 Resilient Layer.
  • T&G chipboard or plywood deck laid over Hush Battens using Hush-Bond and screw fixings.
  • Perimeter sealing with Hush Seal 20 Acoustic Sealant strip.
  • Timber battens fixed to the underside of the concrete slab at required centres.
  • Ceiling lining of one layer of 12.5mm Gyproc Soundbloc or Fireline plasterboard.

Installation Guidance

  • Lay Hush-Felt 10 Resilient Layer directly to the concrete structure.
  • Position Hush Battens loose laid at required centres across the floor area.
  • Install T&G chipboard or plywood decking over the battens, gluing joints with Hush-Bond and securing with screw fixings.
  • Seal all floor perimeters using Hush Seal 20 perimeter strip.
  • Fix timber battens to the underside of the concrete slab at required centres.
  • Secure a single layer of 12.5mm Gyproc Soundbloc or Fireline plasterboard to the battens.
  • Seal all perimeters before skim finishing to maintain acoustic performance.
  • Upgrade ceiling treatment where structure does not meet required density.
  • Residential apartments and housing with concrete separating floors.
  • Student accommodation, hotels, and care homes needing sound control.
  • Commercial and mixed-use projects with concrete structures.
  • Refurbishment schemes requiring improved acoustic insulation.
  • Part E compliant acoustic system for concrete separating floors.
  • Combines Hush-Felt resilient layers with Hush Battens for superior impact reduction.
  • Strong and stable floor finish with chipboard or plywood decking.
  • Effective airborne and impact sound control when paired with suspended ceilings.
  • Ceiling treatment can be upgraded where structure density is insufficient.
